Comfort Vision Update

To the patients of Comfort Vision,

Nearly six years ago I was privileged to join Comfort Vision to become one of your primary vision care providers. It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing my departure from Comfort Vision, effective August 1, 2016 due to family and personal reasons. Please understand this has not been an easy decision for me to make, as I have wholeheartedly enjoyed caring for my patients here. Dr. Nguyen and the staff will continue providing you with excellent vision care.

I would like to sincerely thank you for your support, and for allowing me to be a part of you and your family’s lives. Thank you for the stories, laughter and friendships. I have truly enjoyed serving you and taking care of your vision needs.

I will remain in the greater Seattle area and continue to see patients at my other office in Mercer Island. If you have any questions or wish to continue your care with me, please don’t hesitate to reach me at Mercer Island Family Eye Care. The phone number at the office is 206-232- 1633, and emails will also be answered at mifamilyeyecare@gmail.com.

I wish you and your loved ones the very best of health and happiness in the future.  Thank you again for the time we have spent together.

Warm Regards,

Savatei Susan Sea, OD

Spring: fun, flowers, and itchy eyes!

The days are getting longer, the birds are singing, and the flowers are blooming. It must mean that Spring is near! We are so fortunate to have all these things to look forward to with the new season, but unfortunately all of this beauty comes with dreaded seasonal allergies! This condition affects 50 million Americans, causing irritating symptoms like ocular itchiness and redness.

Ocular allergies occur with exposure to allergens, such as pollen from grasses or trees. Each individual may be sensitive to particular allergens, so the ragweed that makes one person’s eyes turn itchy and red may have no effect on another person who is experiences sensitivity to animal hair or trees. Different seasons may also contribute to triggering allergens as well. For instance, grass in the summer can cause the same symptoms as weed pollen in the fall.

The Eyes’ Response to Ocular Allergens

When exposed to these allergens, the response in the eye is nearly immediate:

  • First, itching sets in and can become persistent and extremely bothersome if exposure to the allergen is continued.
  • Shortly after itching begins, redness of the eyes follows and can last somewhat longer, as the blood vessels of the eye are slower to recover.
  • The swelling of the eyes and eyelids comes to its peak later than the itching, as swelling is also caused by the blood vessels letting fluids out into the tissue around them. Swelling is the sign of ocular allergies slowest to disappear, considering the time it takes for the displaced fluid to be removed.

Eye itchiness is often times considered to be the most uncomfortable symptom, whereas the swelling and redness are most bothersome in terms of appearance.

If you relate to this article, a simple trip to your optometrist can alleviate most of these symptoms. Over-the-counter medication at your local drug store can be confusing and also intimidating just by the sheer volume of product available to choose from. Prescription ocular allergy medication works quickly, efficiently, and allows you to use a lower dosage than their over-the-counter counterparts.  An additional benefit with most prescription ocular allergy medications is that the usage actually creates a resistance to your particular allergens.

Enjoy this exciting new season with clear, itch-free eyes by coming to see your eye doctor today! They will be able to best assess your allergic condition and see what treatment options will work best for you!

Happy Spring from Comfort Vision!
